Dog Soldiers (Collector’s Edition): Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Blu-Ray this week is the Collector’s Edition of 2002’s “Dog Soldiers”, courtesy of Scream Factory. Written and directed by Neil Marshall (who also gave us the underrated “Doomsday”), “Dog Soldiers” is no question one of the best werewolf films of the past two decades.
Set in the Scottish Highlands, a group of soldiers are sent on a training exercise only to discover that they are not alone. A Special Ops unit was there as well but only the captain was found with the rest of his team seemingly torn to shreds. It doesn’t take long for the team to get attacked by massive werewolves and when they are picked up by a local, they head to a cabin in the woods for shelter. What they wind up doing is trapping themselves inside with the wolves trying to figure out how to get in.
“Dog Soldiers” is quite fun and also had a great cast, most notably Sean Pertwee (whom you might recognize as Alfred on TV’s “Gotham”). Fans of the genre who have never seen it should check it out. Scream Factory has given us a new 2K Scan HD Transfer as well as a good deal of new bonus features which you can see below. “Dog Solders” fans should be wagging their tails for this release.
