The Dungeonmaster/ Eliminators (Double Feature): Blu-Ray Review
Arriving this week on Blu-ray is the Empire Pictures double feature “Dungeonmaster” aka “Ragewar” (1985) and “Eliminators” (1986), courtesy of Scream Factory. Fans of these titles should be happy to have them available in HD. Although I was never much of a “Dungeonmaster” fan, I will admit that I watched “Eliminators” a few times when I was younger
One of the interesting things about “Dungeonmaster” is that even though it is not an anthology, seven different directors each shot a segment of the film. The story centers on computer programmer Paul Bradford (Jeffrey Byron) and his girlfriend Gwen (Leslie Wing). When they both get sucked into a game, run by the wizard Mestema (Richard Moll), Paul must win each challenge to save Gwen and return to reality. The challenges are weird to say the least, but the segments by the various filmmakers are so uneven and really not much fun to watch.
“Eliminators” is something entirely different. Yeah, it’s bad, but its entertainingly so. When the time traveling Mandroid (Patrick Reynolds) rebels against his evil creator Abbot Reeves (Roy Dotrice) he teams up with the scientist that created his technology , Nora Hunter (Denise Crosby). Together they must stop Reeves from going back in time and changing the past. Joining them is boat captain Harry Fontana (Andrew Pine) and even a Ninja joins the team in the final act. Oh yeah, this is super stupid, but this is fine by me.
If you are a fan of either of these titles, then this might be worth picking up. Although bonus material is thin with the release, it does include at least one new interview.
