Think Like a Man Too: Movie Review

2012’s “Think Like a Man” was based on the Steve Harvey book “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man”. Thanks to its’ talented and likable cast, as well as some very clever writing, the film won over audiences and critics alike. Two years later, director Tim Story returns with sequel that feels not only forced, but lacks most of the heart of the original. Replacing a good story for Vegas shenanigans. “Think Like a Man Too” is not without a few laughs, but one of the biggest issues here is putting Kevin Heart front and center. The comedic actor can be funny, but he wears out his welcome by the film’s mid-way point.

In the sequel, Michael (Terrence Jenkins) and Candace (Regina Hall) are about to tie the knot in Las Vegas. All of their friends of course come out for the big event and also to take part in the bachelor and bachelorette parties. As Michael’s best man, Cedric (Kevin Heart) has the duty to give his friends an awesome night. Zeke (Romany Malco, Bennett (Gary Owen), Jeremy (Jerry Ferrara), and Dominic (Michael Ealy) are all game.

Regina’s ladies which include Mya (Meagan Good), Lauren (Taraji P. Henson), Tish (Wendi McLendon-Covey), and Kristen (Gabrielle Union) want to have a fun night as well, but things get off to a rocky start when Regina’s overbearing soon-to-be-mother-in-law Loretta (Jenifer Lewis) won’t give the ladies their space.

Most of “Think Like a Man Too” consists of juvenile behavior which feels like it ignores all that the characters have learned in the first film. The women are strong intelligent characters, but here they accidently get high in a male strip club and then get in a brawl that lands them in jail with their boyfriends who were at the same strip club taking part in an amateur stripping contest. The more I think about, “Think Like a Man Too”, the more stupid it seems. The book didn’t have a follow up, and the movie shouldn’t of had one either.
