All Hallows’ Eve 2: DVD Review

2013’s “All Hallows’ Eve” was a nice surprise. Writer/director Damien Leone crafted a low-budget creepy horror anthology, which featured an unsettling new horror character named Art the Clown (played by Make Giannelli). Leone is currently filming a solo Art the Clown film called “Terrifier”, that I can’t wait to see (even though the character has been recast). Arriving on DVD and digital this week is “All Hallows’ Eve 2” and unlike the first anthology, each segment was written and directed by different people, none of them being Leone. There is absolutely nothing here that even resembles the first film. This sequel is truly awful.

“All Hallows’ Eve 2” features eight short films plus a wraparound segment. One of them is in Spanish with no subtitles. Even though I don’t speak the language, I was able to figure out what was going on. It was also one of the more freaky shorts. I also kind of dug Bryan Norton and Antonio Padovan’s “Jack Attack” segment which had some cool practical effects. Mildly enjoying two out of eight shorts in an anthology however won’t make me recommend it.

“All Hallows’ Eve 2” feels like nothing more than a bunch of short film slapped together with the sequel’s title stamped on it. Skip this one and wait for “Terrifier”.
