Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues – Movie Review
The sequel to the hugely popular “Anchorman” took quite awhile before it saw the light of day. Though it is nowhere near as good as the first film, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” manages to deliver enough laughs to make it worth giving a look if you are a fan of Ron Burgundy and his news team.
After getting fired by his idol, news anchor Mack Harken (Harrison Ford), Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) gives his wife and former co-anchor Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) the ultimatum of choosing between her promotion at work or him. Needless to say, Ron is now out of Veronica’s life, as well as his son’s.
When Ron is offered a job by a brand new 24-hour news network called GNN, he quickly locates his former news team, which includes Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), and Champ Kind (David Koechner). They all hop into a van and head to New York.
The biggest issue I had with “Anchorman 2” is that it wears out its’ welcome by mid-way through. Running at nearly 2 hours, there are not nearly enough laughs to justify its’ runtime. Some scenes just seem to go on forever. If you remember the big street fight scene from the original that was laced with cameos. The sequel tries to out-do the first film, but fails by putting too many characters and letting it run on way too long. Still, I love seeing the whole cast back together, especially Carrell who hasn’t missed a beat as the loveable Brick.
