Appetites: DVD Review

appetites

Arriving this week on DVD is “Appetites”, directed by Cameron Casey. Although I was mildly entertained, it’s difficult to generalize what type of film this is. Although “Appetites” is marketed as a horror-thriller, it is more on the lines of a low-grade “Natural  Born Killers”. One major difference is that the two main characters are not aware of each other’s knack for murder.

Daisy (Lauren Parkinson) is a beautiful bartender in a small town. When she is not working, she helps her simple-minded brother hunt down trespassers on their land for sport and food. Yep, they are cannibals. John (Bret Roberts) travels from town to town looking for beautiful girls covered in tattoos, so that he can bring them to his motel room and kill them. When John arrives in Daisy’s town, it is love at first sight. Both of them are off their rocker but they might just be perfect for each other.

Although I was never bored with “Appetites”, the film just didn’t offer much to pique my interest. Parkinson is easily the best part, offering a great mix of sexiness and craziness. Those who like twisted-romance, might find some enjoyment out of “Appetites”, but when it was all over, I had a hunger for something better.
