Black Christmas (Collector’s Edition): Blu-Ray Review

blackchristmas

Arriving this week on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray is the 1974 horror classic, “Black Christmas”.  It’s hard to believe that the same man who directed this retro slasher also gave us 1983’s “A Christmas Story”.  The late Bob Clark really did tackle an interesting mix of genres through his career. Although not a massive hit upon its’ theatrical release, “Black Christmas” has developed a large following over the decades since. “Black Christmas” is also one of the original slasher films, released years before John Carpenter’s “Halloween”.

For fans of “Black Christmas”, this new two-disk release is a thing of beauty. Although many of the bonus features aren’t brand new, the ones that are make all the difference.  Not only do you get a 2K transfer with DTS-HD 5.1 Audio, but you also get the 2006 Critical Mass HD Master as well as a couple new featurettes.  If you already own the Critical Mass edition I can’t tell you that this latest edition from Scream Factory is a must to upgrade. However if you do not own that edition, then this Collector’s Edition should definitely be added to your collection.
