Blood, Sweat and Terrors: DVD Review

Arriving on DVD this week is the action anthology, “Blood, Sweat and Terrors”, which features nine short films curated from Rue Morgue and Unstable Ground’s Little Terrors Short Film Festival. The titles include “Get Some,” “Empire of Dirt,” “Turncoat,” Fetch,” “Express Delivery,” “Olga,”, “Jacob’s Wrath”. “Flow” and “Awesome Runaway.” These international segments were directed by Adam Mason, Adam Horton, Joe Horton, Beau Fowler, Alexandre Carriére, Shelagh Rowan-Legg, Benjamin de Los Santos, Will Gilbey, Olaf Svenson and Daniel Bernhardt.

Like most anthologies, the segments are a mixed bag, but even some of the weaker ones did feature solid choreographed fight sequence. Easily my favorite of the bunch is Beau Fowler’s “Express Delivery”. It is basically a “Transporter” knock-off but most of the run-time consists of a kick-ass fight between the two main characters.  I wish the rest of the anthology was even half as entertaining as Fowler’s short.

It’s good to see the action genre get an anthology, since they are usually horror films. “Blood, Sweat and Terror” tries to include some horror with a couple of the segments but doesn’t quite succeed. Despite a few good fights, I can’t quite recommend this one for horror fans, but if low-budget action is your thing, you might find a little to like here.
