Cabin Fever: Blu-Ray Review

Arriving on Blu-ray this week is Travis Z’s remake of Eli Roth’s “Cabin Fever”.  I am unsure why a remake exists to a film that is only fourteen years old, especially one that worked so well the first time around and is not the least bit dated.  Hell, a prequel to the original film was released less than two years ago.  Nevertheless, here we are with a new version of “Cabin Fever”.  This is basically the same exact film, just less fun.

A Group of friends, Karen (Gage Golightly), Jeff (Matthew Daddario), Paul (Samuel Davis), Marcy (Nadine Crocker), and Bert (Dustin Ingram), head out to a beautiful lakeside cabin to enjoy some vacation time.  The fun turns to terror when they realize that they have become victims to gruesome flesh-eating virus.  With their car out of commission, no phone service and a mad-dog tormenting them, the group fight to stay alive.

Eli Roth is only the producer on this one, but his touch is sorely missed.  Travis Z basically makes the same movie but the whole thing feels pointless.  The cast is easily forgettable and even though the gore works, I was definitely more impressed the 2002 version. Even the infamous leg-shaving bath scene is just a pale copy of the original.  If you are a fan of 2002’s “Cabin Fever”, pass on this one and watch the original instead.
