Car Wash: Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Blu-ray this week is the 1976 comedy, “Car Wash”. What many may not realize is that the film was originally meant to be a musical and in all honesty would have probably had a much larger following if it went that route. Keep-in-mind that the soundtrack gave us R&B hits like “Car Wash” “I Wanna Get Next to You”, and “I’m Going Down”. Just imagine if those songs were cinematic musical numbers. Regardless, “Car Wash” still wound up being a fun, funny, and sometimes an honest representation of that era.
As for the HD transfer, the film looks fantastic. This is easily the best release “Car Wash” has been given. My only gripe (and this is a pretty big one), the omitted scenes including Danny DeVito and Brook Adams as Joe and Terry have not been included on this release. Although these scenes were not in the theatrical release, they were put back in the film for its’ television premiere in 1978. This made sense since that year, “Taxi” was one of the biggest shows on TV. If you are a fan of “Car Wash”, this release is for you.
