Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2: Movie Review

I can’t believe that its’ been four years since the first “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” was released.  With the exception of Terry Crews taking over for Mr. T, most of the voice talent is back for this subpar sequel.  “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” may look just as bright and colorful as the original, but it lacks a majority of the fun and wonder. Not to mention that almost every joke here falls flat.  Even most of the children in the audience remained silent during many of the attempts at humor.

When the first film ended, Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) had saved the town from his out-of-control invention that could make food fall from the sky.  The sequel picks up right where the first one left off.  Flint’s childhood hero, Chester V (Will Forte) arrives with his team with the promise of cleaning up the town and relocating its’ population while they do so.  Little do they know, that Chester has another agenda in mind.

When Flint and his friends head back to their home in order to search for his missing invention that caused all the destruction to begin with, they soon realize that all the food that that was created has come to life.  This is by far the most interesting aspect of the film. If you have ever wanted to see a taco version of a crocodile (tacodile supreme), you will actually get to see one here.

Not only is “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” not funny, but it’s actually quite boring as well.  It’s a shame that not even the cast of voices which include Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Benjamin Bratt, Neil Patrick Harris, and Kristen Schall, can help this lifeless flick.  No matter what I say about it though, I am sure CWACOM2 will make a ton of money at the box office. Let’s just hope it doesn’t make enough to green light a third entry.
