Dark Summer: Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Blu-ray this week is IFC Midnight’s “Dark Summer”, courtesy of Scream Factory. The film stars Keir Gilchrist, Stella, Maeve, Grace Phipps, Maestro Harrell, Peter Stormare, and directed by Paul Solet (“Grace”).
The story follows Daniel Williamson (Gilchrist), a teenager currently on house arrest for cyber-stalking Mona (Phipps). Things get much worse for Daniel when he witnesses Mona taking her own life via webcam. After that, Mona begins to torment Daniel from the afterlife. At first, Daniel’s friends, Kevin (Harrell) and Abby (Maeve) don’t believe that their friend is being haunted, but their tune suddenly changes after they successfully reach out to Mona’s spirit.
“Dark Summer” does have its moments, but ultimately it just isn’t scary. I will say that the twist in the final act was one that I didn’t see coming, unfortunately but that time I had pretty much checked out.
