Deadtime Stories: Blu-Ray Review

Arriving on Blu-ray this week is Jeffery Delman’s 1986 horror anthology, “Deadtime Stories”.  This twisted take on classic children’s stories has developed a small cult following over the years. Chances are you never heard of it and If you have, you most likely forgot about it. Thanks to Scream Factory, fans of “Deadtime Stories” get a brand-new HD Transfer from the original negative.

A year before Scott Valentine became “My Demon Lover”, he played Peter, a servant for some nasty witches in one of the three stories told.  We also get a dark take on “Little Red Riding Hood”, plus “Goldi Lox” which features an early performance from Melissa Leo.  Each twisted tale comes from the mind of a young boy’s uncle, who happens to be babysitting that night.

As far as anthologies go, “Deadtime Stories” was never very good, but it does have its’ charms.  This was my first time checking out the film in nearly three decades and my feelings towards it are indifferent.  I will say for those who are fans, the transfer is great and comes with a nice amount of bonus features. If you dig “Deadtime Stories”, you will most likely want to pick-up this release.
