Debug: DVD Review

debug

Arriving on DVD this week is the sci-fi/horror film “Debug”, written and directed by David Hewlett. There isn’t really anything new here, as the film borrows from so many other films in the genre but it does manage to move along pretty quickly. The cast which includes Jason Moma, Adam Butcher, Jeananne Goossen, Adrian Holmes, and Jayden Wong (who I like on TV’s “Scorpion”), also helps keep things interesting.

When six computer hackers are sent to a space freighter as part of a work release program, they soon discover that their hacking skills are no match for a dangerous A.I. program that is in complete control. This program (Moma) wants to be human and to my understanding, it must kill and make each victim part of itself. In all honesty, the premise is so stupid, that I just really didn’t care what the A.I.’s motivation was.

If you are a fan of sci-fi and horror and have 86 minutes that you need to fill, “Debug” may be worth giving a look, just don’t go in with high expectations. It is passable entertainment for those in the mood for an old fashion computer program killing people kind of movie.
