Drop: 4K UHD Review

Now available on 4K UHD is Christopher Landon’s first-date thriller, Drop, starring Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar.

Widowed single mother, Violet Gates (Fahy) is super nervous, because she is about to start dating again, leaving her son Toby home with her younger sister.  When Violet arrives as the restaurant, which is located at the top of a high rise, she learns that her date (whom she met on a dating app), is running a little late. At least Henry (her date’s name), is considerate enough to let her know that he is running a little behind.  This gives Violet enough time to have some contact with others around the restaurant, like the bartender, pianist and another couple on a blind date as well.

When Henry does arrive, Violet has already received mysterious Digi-Drops from someone who must be in the same location, as you need to be near the person you are sending the drops to. When Violet gets a message that that she must steal the SD card in Henry’s camera (He is a photographer) or her son and sister will be killed, she has no choice but to do what the unknown sender is ordering her to do.  Apparently, there is something on the card that can get some powerful people in a lot of trouble. Not only that, but they also want Violet to killer her date. Yep, first dates can be a total nightmare.

Drop is quite silly at times and totally implausible. However, it’s a fun ride that moves along quickly, thanks to some clever writing and a charming cast. While my favorite film from Landon so far is 2020’s Freaky, I love that he is trying something a little different this time around.
