Five Star: Movie Review

five star

Arriving on DVD this week is Keith Miller’s “Five Star”, an East New York set drama in which a lifelong member of the notorious Bloods takes the son of his late mentor under his wing. The film also stars real like Bloods member, James ‘Primo’ Grant.

John (John Diaz) never really knew his father while he was alive. People around the neighborhood have always told John how powerful and respected his father was, but that never really helped him. Primo who is a general in the Bloods was mentored by John’s father and wants to bring John into the fold. John’s mother (Wanda Nobles Colon) wants her son to not go down the same road her late husband went down and John girlfriend (Jasmine Burgos) feels the same way.

“Five Star” works so well because it never feels false. The directions the characters take feel true to life which is important when dealing with this kind of subject matter. If you like inner city set dramas, this is definitely worth checking out.
