Get Shorty (Collector’s Edition): Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray this week is Barry Sonnenfeld’s 1995 comedy, “Get Shorty”, starring John Travolta, Gene Hackman, Rene Russo and Danny DeVito. Based on Elmore Leonard’s novel of the same name, the story follows a film-loving loan shark who heads to Los Angeles in order to track down some owed money, only to fall into the movie business.
“Get Shorty” is a wonderful satire on Hollywood, but what makes it work so well is not only the amazing cast but also the adapted screenplay from Scott Frank. Travolta is a lot of fun as the honorable shylock, but it is Dennis Farina who plays mobster Ray “Bones” Barboni that truly shines. I have always loved gangster flicks and satires on the movie industry and “Get Shorty” is able to deliver on both. Shout! Factory has delivered a new 4K transfer that looks fantastic and if you are a fan, I highly recommend picking up a copy.
