Hackers (20th Anniversary Edition): Blu-Ray Review

hackers

Arriving this week on Blu-ray for the first time is “Hackers”, and it’s about time! Thanks to Shout! Factory, this truly awesome piece of the 90’s has an HD 20th Anniversary Edition that will be getting multiple viewings from me. If I haven’t made it obvious for you yet, I absolutely love “Hackers”.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the film, the story is centered on Dade (Jonny Lee Miller) . When Dade was young, he was arrested for writing a very nasty computer virus and banned from using a computer until he turned 18. Years later, Dade is now living in New York and attending a new high school. He also has developed an instant crush on the local hot girl Kate (Angelina Jolie), who just so happens to be a skilled hacker too.

“Hackers” really kicks things in to gear when one of Dade’s new friends hacks a Mineral Company supercomputer and gets caught by the security officer (Fisher Stevens) who also happens to be a former hacker known as “The Plague”. In order to save their friend and bring down “The Plague” who has some dirty deeds planned of his own, Dade and Libby plus a rag-tag group of hackers, team up to save the day.

“Hackers” is one of those films that has become a cult classic since its release. The cast which also includes Jesse Bradford, Matthew Lillard, Lorraine Bracco, Wendell Pierce, and Marc Anthony help bring the awesomeness to the Iain Softley directed flick. This is a definite must buy.

Bonus Features
• Brand-new interviews with director Iain Softley, cast members Fisher Stevens and Penn Jillette, VFX artist Peter Chiang, wardrobe designer Roger Burton, hacking consultants Emmanuel Goldstein and Nicholas Jarecki, film critic Mark Kermode and more!
