Madhouse (Special Edition) Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Special Edition Blu-ray this week is Ovidio G. Assonitis’s 1981 Italian slasher, “Madhouse”. Originally titled “There Was a Little Girl”, but renamed upon home video release, the film had garnered a cult following over the years from fans of Italian Horror. Although there are times where I found the film unintentionally funny, especially during the close-ups of a fake dog, “Madhouse” remains quite chilling.
The acting is sub-par at best, but Assonitis is able to bring some of the same low-budget pleasure as he did with “The Curse” “The Visitor” and “Piranha II” (which he co-directed with James Cameron). Fans of “Madhouse” will want to pick up this release as the 2K restoration looks fantastic.
