Midnight Run (Collector’s Edition): Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray this week is the 1988 Martin Brest action-comedy “Midnight Run”, which stars Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. It’s been quite some time since I have seen this film and forgot how great the two leads are together. Thankfully Shout! Select has hooked us up with a new 2K presentation.
For those unfamiliar with “Midnight Run”, the story follows bounty hunter, Jack Walsh (De Niro), who has just a few days to locate mob accountant Jonathan “The Duke” Madukas (Grodin) and deliver him to Los Angeles, so he can collect a $100,000 bounty. What originally sounds like an easy pick-up and delivery, quickly turns into a road-trip from hell. Not only is the FBI after Madukas, but so is mob boss Jimmy Serrano (Dennis Farina). If that wasn’t enough, competing bounty hunter Marvin Dorfler (John Ashton) also wants to claim the bounty.
“Midnight Run” still holds up pretty damn well nearly three decades later and is still quite enjoyable. If you are a fan and don’t already own the film, this is the best release available.
