Narcopolis: Blu-Ray Review

narcopolis

Arriving on Blu-ray this week is the sci-fi flick “Narcopolis”, written and directed by Justin Trefgame. Although it has an interesting premise in which drugs have been legalized in the near future, I have to say that I was seriously underwhelmed by just about every aspect of “Narcopolis”.

Set in the year 2024, drugs have now been legalized and licensed drug companies are getting rich. There are still black market dealers out there and that is where the Drecks come in. They are a form of law enforcement that help keep the black market dealers off the streets.

One of these Dreck officers is former addict Frank Grieves (Elliot Cowan). While investigating a mysterious death, he makes a connection to the Ambro Company, which just so happens to be the most powerful drug company around. They have deep pockets and Grieves’ boss is in those pockets. This makes his job all the more difficult. Things get even more complex when a mysterious young woman (Elodie Yung) turns out to be from the future and has traveled back in time to make some changes of her own.

To be perfectly honest, I found myself getting a bit lost while watching “Narcopolis”. It could have been that I was just so bored that I began spacing out, or that it was just poorly written. Either way, I just can’t recommend it.
