Reality: Blu-Ray Review
Arriving this week on Blu-ray + DVD combo pack is Quentin Dupieux’s “Reality”. Let me be clear, if you are someone who had a hard time making it all the way through previous Dupieux films like “Rubber” or “Wrong”, than “Reality” might not be for you. I know the filmmmaker has his fans out there, but I have struggled with his work. Although I give each of his projects a chance, they just haven’t been my cup of tea. “Reality” is no different.
“Reality” is set in an alternate reality of the film industry, centered on camera man Jason Tantra (Alain Chabat) who has been given 48 hours to come up with an Academy Award worthy groan sound effect in order to get his film produced. As Jason travels around Los Angeles recording groans at gyms, stores, and other places his journey becomes increasingly bizarre. It becomes nearly impossible to distinguish fantasy from reality.
I have a feeling that fans of Dupieux’s creative but odd works will find plenty to enjoy about “Reality” but as for me, I just couldn’t get into it.
