Return to Sender: Blu-Ray Review
Arriving this week on DVD and Blu-ray is the thriller “Return to Sender” which stars Rosamund Pike, Shiloh Fernandez, and Nick Nolte. This could very well be one of the dumbest thrillers of 2015 and though mildly entertaining at times, the stupidity on display is hard to get beyond. Sure the characters have severe emotional issues but the decisions that they make somehow defy logic. Rosamund Pike follows her Academy Award nomination for “Gone Girl” with yet another thriller but “Return to Sender” is nowhere near on the same level as that film.
The story centers on small town dedicated nurse Miranda Wells (Pike). While at home getting ready for a blind date, William Finn (Fernandez) shows up at her doorstep. Miranda automatically assumes that this guy is her blind date and invites him in. Moments later William attacks and rapes Miranda and then runs off. Shortly after, William is caught and sent to prison.
Unable to put her life back together after the horrific incident, Miranda decides to start visiting William at prison and a twisted flirtation ensues. After serving his time, William gets paroled and things get even more twisted. When Miranda’s father (Nolte) finds out what’s going on, you better believe he doesn’t approve.
Anyone who has seen films of this nature can pretty much guess how things will play out. I was spot on, however my accurate guess made “Return to Sender” even more idiotic than I initially thought.
