Scarecrows: Blu-Ray Review

scarecrows

Arriving on Blu-Ray this week is 1988’s “Scarecrows”, courtesy of Scream Factory. This is a title I have been aware of since its’ release, but I had never actually seen it until now. I remember seeing it countless times on my local video store shelf but for some reason never checked it out. Although I can’t say that I loved “Scarecrows”, I will say that it was quite different than I expected.

The film centers on group of ex-military who have just pulled off a major heist. While on a plane that is bound for Mexico, they find themselves betrayed by one of their own. Now the team is hunting down the one that stole their money through the fields near and abandoned house. As they search for the money, supernatural scarecrows begin to get pick them off one-by-one. Not only killing, them but stuffing them with the money they are searching for and turning them into powerful possessed killing machines.

Yes, “Scarecrows” is absurd, but it is also quite original at times. The tone and setting works, but I just couldn’t really get into it myself. I know there are a lot of fans of this film out there and if you are one of them, then this is a great release with tons of bonus features.
