See You in Valhalla: DVD Review
Arriving on DVD this week is Jarret and Brent Tarnol’s “See You in Valhalla”, which stars Sarah Hyland (“Modern Family”), Bret Harrison (“Reaper”), Steve Howey (“Shameless”), Michael Weston (“House M.D.”), Emma Bell (“The Walking Dead”), and Conor O’Farrell (“C.S.I.”). Even though it manages to entertain through a brisk 82 minutes, this family drama is filled with too many poorly written ridiculous characters to actually get invested with.
After the death of her brother, Johana Burwood (Hyland) accompanied by her boyfriend, travels back home to see her family who she hasn’t connected with in a long time. Once the family is back together, which consists of Johana’s father, two brothers, and her niece, the bickering instantly begins. It is clear that there is some serious tension within the Burwood clan. The two outsiders, Johana’s boyfriend Peter (Alex Frost), and Barry’s boyfriend Makewi (Howey), seem to be the only ones, aside from their father Woody (O’Farrell), trying to get the family to get along.
“See You in Valhalla” is a very mediocre film but features a likable enough cast to help keep things moving along. There isn’t much here to recommend but for those of you would dig dysfunctional family flicks, you can do much worse than this.
