Some Kind of Hate: Blu-Ray Review
Arriving this week on DVD & Blu-ray is the supernatural teen slasher flick “Some Kind of Hate”, directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer. Prior to checking out the Blu-ray, I had heard some interesting things about this one and was looking forward to checking it out. The idea of a horror film set at a reform school in the middle of nowhere was intriguing. Unfortunately, the film itself doesn’t live up to its premise.
“Some Kind of Hate” centers on Lincoln Taggert (Ronen Rubinstein), a bullied teenager who gets sent to reform school after stabbing the bully in the face. As if getting sent away wasn’t bad enough, Lincoln now has a new set of tormentors to deal with. This time around, Lincoln has some back-up, in the form of a vengeance seeking sprit that was also the victim of bullying.
“Some Kind of Hate” has a few interesting moments, but the writing and direction just feels so uninspired. It’s a shame because with the setting there was definitely room to create compelling characters. The cast is decent and they make the best out of the material they have to work with, but I was really hoping for something better.
