Someone’s Watching Me: Blu-Ray Review
Arriving this week on Blu-ray is John Carpenter’s “Someone’s Watching Me!” Less than a month after the filmmaker terrified audiences with “Halloween”, this made-for-TV horror film aired on NBC. Written and directed by Carpenter, you would wonder why Warner Bros (who produced the film) decided not to try and cash in and give it a theatrical release? “Someone’s Watching Me!” is the only film from the Master of Horror I had never seen, until now. I can see why this one bypassed a theatrical release. It’s just not very good.
The story centers around television director Leigh Michaels (Lauren Hutton) who has just relocated from New York to Los Angeles for a fresh start. Soon after she moves into her new luxury apartment building, a man across the way with a telescope begins to terrorize her. The police can’t help, her new boyfriend isn’t able to do much more than keep her company.
“Someone’s Watching Me” will most likely be for the die-hard Carpenter fans that simply want to own every film he has ever directed, and I totally get that. As much as I disliked the film myself, I am putting it right along-side my other Carpenter blu-rays and DVDs. This is a brand new 2K transfer and it comes in two different aspect ratios. We also get a new interview with Adrienne Barbeau which is a definite plus.
