Sonny Boy: Blu-Ray Review

sonnyboy

Arriving on Blu-ray this week is “Sonny Boy”, which stars David Carradine, Paul L. Smith, Brad Dourif, and Michael Boston in the title role. Prior to Scream Factory releasing this disk, I had never seen the 1989 film. I know it has its’ fans and with Dourif and Carradine among the cast, I definitely wanted to check it out. Now that I have seen “Sonny Boy” for myself, I honestly don’t even know how to describe it.

The film begins with Weasel (Dourif) killing a young couple, stealing their car and bringing it to his boss Slue (Smith) and his girl/boyfriend Pearl (Carradine). Weasel didn’t realize that there was a baby in the back seat and once Pearl sees it, she decides to keep it. Slue rather feed the baby to the pigs, but Pearl is not having any of that. So they keep the baby, name is Sonny Boy and raise it as an animal. Sonny Boy is abused, mutilated and kept chained up in a shed. These are definitely not parents of the year. When Slue decides to use Sonny Boy as a tool to kill those in his way, things begin to get out of hand in the small town.

“Sonny Boy” is totally bonkers and in all honesty I just couldn’t dig it. For those who love the film, you finally have an HD version to call your own.
