Stung: Blu-Ray Review

stung

Arriving on Blu-ray this week is the giant killer wasp flick “Stung”, directed by Benni Diez. I am sure the first thing that comes to mind when I say giant killer wasps is a bad Syfy channel film, but “Stung” is so much better than that. It is also a hell of a good time.

When Julia (Jessica Cook) and Paul (Matt O’Leary) are hired to cater a fancy garden party, they get more than they bargained for when giant mutant wasps go on the attack. Instead of simply killing what they sting, they transform their pray into seven foot tall predators. Although most guests have fallen victim to the wasps, Jula and Paul make their way inside the massive home, along with the son of their client (Clifton Collins Jr), and the local mayor (Lance Henriksen). The group must work together to fend off the giant wasps and make their way to safety.

“Stung” works mostly because it never takes itself seriously and the gore factor is cranked up quite a bit. Yep, this thing is kind of disgusting but in the best way possible. The cast is enjoyable, most notably O’Leary, who I thought was fantastic in 2012’s “Fat Kid Rules the World”. Fans of giant killer ANYTHING movies are sure to dig this one.
