Survivor: Movie Review
Director James McTeigue is definitely capable of delivering a solid action film. He worked as an assistant director on “The Matrix” films and a handful of others before helming “V for Vendetta” and “Ninja Assassin”. Unfortunately his latest effort “Survivor” is so run-of-the-mill and dull that it’s hard to believe that he actually directed it.
Kate Abbott (Milla Jovovich) is a Foreign Service Officer who has been targeted by a hitman named Nash (Pierce Brosnan) because she stands in the way of a planned terrorist attack. After a group of her co-workers are killed in a bombing, the government believes Kate is responsible. Now she is forced to go on the run to not only clear her name and avoid being taken out by Nash, but she also plans to prevent a terrorist attack in New York.
Every twist in “Survivor” you can see coming from a mile away, but the most disappointing thing is the lack of thrills and action for an action-thriller. The supporting cast which includes Dylan McDermott, Angela Bassett, James D’Arcy, and Robert Forster are all solid, but that about the best compliment I can give the film. Although the quality “Survivor” feels on par with much of Jovovich’s work, Brosnan can surely do better.
