Tales from the Hood (Collector’s Edition): Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray this week is the 1995 urban-themed horror anthology, “Tales from the Hood”. Here we get four short stories presented within a frame of the fifth tale. Like most anthologies, “Tales from the Hood” is uneven but the stories that work well make up for the ones that don’t.
Each story deals with subjects that are all too real in the inner cities. Police brutality, gang violence, child abuse and racism play a part in each tale, but they are also peppered with the supernatural to make things even more terrifying. I would say “Rogue Cop Revelation” which centers on dirty cops getting their just-desserts is my personal favorite. I am also fond of “Boys Do Get Bruised” which marked the first time I saw comedian David Alan Grier get totally evil.
If you are a fan of “Tales from the Hood”, then you will want to pick up this release for two major reasons. First would be finally having this in HD. The second would be the new 56 minute “Welcome to Hell” bonus with tons of interviews.
