The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension (Collector’s Edition): Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray this week is 1984’s “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension”, courtesy of Shout! Factory. I have seen all types of films during my 42 years of existence, but I will say that “Buckaroo Banzai” is probably one of the strangest films I had seen theatrically in the 1980’s. I was only 11 years old at the time and I just could not wrap my head around the film. Admittedly, I don’t think I have seen “Buckaroo Banzai” in its entirety since then. Now that Shout! Factory has given it the coveted “Collector’s Edition” treatment, I figured it was time to journey back to the 8th Dimension.
After more than three decades I find myself still puzzled by this film and even though it has developed a massive cult following over the years, I still just could not get into it. The story is just all over the place. However, I have to give it credit for originality and just being balls-to-the-wall crazy. I haven’t had a chance to get to the bonus features yet but for a film this nuts, I can’t resist the opportunity to check out the new two-hour retrospective documentary and the audio commentaries. You can check out the full list of bonus features below. If you are a fan of “Buckaroo Banzai”, this is definitely a release include in your collection. This is also the first release in Shout! Factory’s new Shout! Select label.
