The Bear (25th Anniversary Collector’s Edition): Blu-Ray Review

the bear

It’s been 25 years since the release of director Jean-Jacques Annaud’s astonishing animal survival film “The Bear” and thanks to Shout! Factory, we have a newly restored collector’s edition. If you have never seen this one, now would be the perfect time to give it a look because it has never looked better.

“The Bear” is set in 19th-century British Columbia and tells the story of a newly orphaned bear cub and an injured adult grizzly that join together in order to survive the dangers of the wilderness as well as hunters. There is very little dialogue in “The Bear” as it mostly focuses on the two animals. To this very day, I don’t think I have seen better animal performances on screen better than what we get from both bears here. They are absolutely fantastic and at times it feels like we are watching a documentary rather than a narrative.

This release may not have a long list of bonus features but it does include a “Making Of” segment and if you are wondering how this movie was actually made, that will be good enough for you. “The Bear” is a definite must-buy!

Bonus Feature
• The Making Of The Bear
