The Legacy: Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Blu-ray this week is 1978’s “The Legacy”, directed by Richard Marquand (Return of the Jedi), courtesy of Scream Factory. I watched “The Legacy” many times as a kid but haven’t seen it in decades. Thanks to the beautiful HD transfer from the interpositive, the film has never looked better.
For those who have never seen “The Legacy”, the film centers on Maggie (Katherine Ross) and her boyfriend Pete (Sam Elliot). After getting a fifty thousand dollar advance on a mysterious interior design job in England, the couple decide to fly there a little early to take in the countryside. When they are run off the road and their motorcycle is damaged, Jason Mountolive (John Standing) invites them to join him at his home to rest. What the couple doesn’t know, is that Jason has plans for Maggie and that their meeting wasn’t an accident.
“The Legacy” is definitely a lot sillier than I remembered. However, that didn’t stop me from thoroughly enjoying just how wacky the whole thing is. I do have to point out that Roger Daltrey of “The Who” easily gives one of the film’s more fun performances. “The Legacy” is utterly idiotic but I am still one of its fans.
