The Lesson: Blu-Ray Review

Arriving on Blu-ray his week is writer/director Ruth Platt’s thriller, “The Lesson”.   Ever wondered what would happen if an educator underwent a psychotic break after getting pushed one time too many by their troublemaking students?  Sure, we saw this before in “187” starring Samuel L. Jackson, but “The Lesson” leans more towards the horror side of things. “The Lesson” is an impressive feature film debut for Platt who has spent fourteen years in front of the camera.

“The Lesson” centers on a couple of delinquent teenagers, Fin (Evan Bendall) and Joel (Rory Coltart), who are abducted by their English teacher Mr. Gale (Robert Hands) after pushing him way too far.  Tied up and ready for torture, Mr. Gale is going to teach these boys a lesson they will never forget.

Although it takes its’ time to get going, “The Lesson” does have some great tension in the film’s second half. Fans of art-house horror may want to give this one a look.
