The Pack: Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Blu-ray this week is Nick Robertson’s Australian thriller, “The Pack”. It’s been quite some time since I have seen a killer dog movie. I honestly can’t remember what the last one was (werewolves don’t count!). There was a killer dog in the remake of “Cabin Fever” that I watched just the other night, but I am talking about full blown killer dog flick. Thankfully, Robertson has delivered a nicely paced rabid K9 feature in where we get to see a pack of dogs, not just one.
The Wilson family is going through some tough times. The bank is threatening to foreclose on their home and that’s only part of the problem. Sheep rancher Adam Wilson (Jack Campbell) can’t put a stop to his flock being slaughtered by wild animals. His wife Carla (Anna Lise Phillips) can’t seem to drum up business for her animal hospital. Their daughter Sophie (Kate Moore) wants to move to the city, and their son Henry (Hamish Phillips) is basically content spending time with the family dog.
Just when they think things can’t get worse, the family is besieged by a pack of wild dogs who have a taste for human flesh. Unable to get help, the Wilson’s must defend their home from the four-legged terrors with blood on the brain.
“The Pack” does get off to a bit of a slow start, but once the dogs come into play, things pick up and get quite intense. There is quite a bit of fun to have here. I also love that “The Pack” has a real 80’s vibe to it. Fans of retro horror will definitely enjoy this one.
