The Serpent and the Rainbow (Collector’s Edition): Blu-Ray Review

Arriving on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray this week is Wes Craven’s 1988 horror flick, “The Serpent and the Rainbow”. Although this isn’t on the top of my list of favorite films from the late director, there is still plenty to admire about it. Plus fans of the film will be more than pleased with the new HD transfer, which is far superior than the previous Blu-ray release.

When Harvard University ethnobotanist/ anthropologist Dennis Alan (Bill Pullman) is sent to Haiti in search of a powder that brings the living back from the dead, he finds himself dealing with more than he bargained for. It turns out that the powder is supernatural and the villainous Dargent Peytraud (Zakes Mokae) has his own plans for it.

“The Serpent and the Rainbow” is loosely based on the book of the same name by Wade Davis, which in turn was based on his real life experiences. If you are a fan of the film, the Collector’s Edition is a must buy. Plenty of new interviews as well as a stunning transfer make this the best possible release to own.
