Time Lapse: DVD Review
Arriving on DVD and Blu-Ray this week is the new Sci-Fi/thriller “Time Lapse”, directed by Bradley King and starring Daniella Panabaker (“The Flash”), Matt O’Leary and George Finn. This clever and original film is just another example that proves filmmakers don’t need a big budget and visual spectacle to create an engrossing piece of science fiction.
Finn (O’Leary), his girlfriend Callie (Panabaker) and their friend Jasper (Finn), live a pretty average life. Finn is an aspiring artist who is also an apartment building manager. Jasper has a gambling addiction and Callie is there to make the boys lasagna when they are hungry. None of them are all too happy with their lives and it doesn’t help that they are all living hand-to-mouth.
Things change for the roommates when they discover a giant camera in the apartment across the way from them. Every night at 8pm, the camera takes picture of their living room that gives them a glimpse 24 hours into the future. They also discover that the old scientist that lived in that apartment has died in the complex storage room.
Instead of calling the police and reporting the death, they conspire to cover-up the corpse and use the machine to better their life. Jasper uses it to take photos of winning races and then posts his bets based on the photos he taped to his living room window. It doesn’t take long for things to get really bad. Jasper’s dangerous bookie Ivan (Jason Spisak) learns of the device and takes control of the situation. Things go from bad to worse when Jasper begins to go a little crazy, which also sends Finn and Callie on a downward spiral.
“Time Lapse” is definitely worth checking out for those who are into sci-fi and time travel. Although no actually time traveling goes on here, the “time” element does work very well. Make sure you give this one a look.
