Uncaged: DVD Review
Arriving on DVD and Digital this week is the new werewolf flick, “Uncaged”, directed by Daniel Robbins (“The Convenient Job”). I am always keeping my eye out for new additions to the lycanthrope sub-genre. There has always been something about werewolves that fascinated me. Unfortunately they can’t all be winners. Despite the cool looking DVD cover art, there is very little to like here. I wasn’t exactly bored by “Uncaged”, it just wasn’t all that interesting or scary. Worst of all, the werewolf make-up effects looked down-right cheesy.
The story centers on 18-year-old Jack (Ben Getz), who was raised with his cousin Brandon (Zack Weiner) after tragedy struck his home at a young age. When Jack, Brandon, and their friend Turner (Kyle Kirkpatrick) head to a remote cabin for a weekend getaway, strange things begin to happen. Jack goes to sleep but wakes up outside, naked in the cold. He has no memory how he got there. Jack decides to video-document his sleeping-episodes, and when he watches the footage, he learns that not only has he transformed into a werewolf, but he has also killed someone.
The rest of “Uncaged” sees Jack dealing with a dangerous criminal and the wife he abuses, who just so happens to be the only witness to the werewolf killing. Jack also has to deal with his friend Turner who has done some naughty things himself. Not to mention deal with his own transformation. I wish there was more to like here but “Uncaged” is simply uninspired.
