Vigilante Diaries: Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand this week is the new action-comedy “Vigilante Diaries”, which stars Paul Sloan (I Am Wrath), Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (The A-Team), Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite), Jason Mewes (Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back) and Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs). That cast alone piqued my interest. Unfortunately even the impressive cast of genre stars can’t elevate the terrible writing and poor pacing. This is one dull action flick.
After bring being abandoned by his government and his handler (Michael Madsen), black-ops agent turned crime-fighter, “The Vigilante” (Paul Sloan) finds himself with a bounty on his head. with the assistance of Wolfman (Jackson), The Kid (Kevin L. Walker), Barry (Mike Hatton), and a few others, they travel the globe on the hunt for a cadre of Armenian mobsters, and super-spy, Barrington (White), who has a plan that will throw the world into chaos.
One of the big issues with “Vigilante Diaries” is the comedy element which does not work at all. Don’t get me wrong, I like Jason Mewes when he is doing his thing in a Kevin Smith film, but here he just does not fit. There is also a stereotypical gay character that is a member of the team which is supposed to be played for laughs, but every joke falls flat. I can’t say if the film would have been better having left the comedy elements out, but I can tell you that I would have been rolling my eyes less. I wish a cast this impressive had better material to work with.
