What We Become: Blu-Ray Review

Arriving on Blu-ray this week is the Danish horror film “What We Become”, written and directed by Bo Mikkelson.  Like many horror fans, I have been a bit worn down by zombies over the past few years.  It feels like there have been countless films and television series based on the sub-genre and so many of them just begin to blend into each other.  We live in an era where a zombie show gets its own zombie spin-off.  That is overkill.  However, “What We Become” does manage to bring a bit of freshness to the living dead.

Set in the suburb of Sorgenfri (which was the film’s original title), a family of four find themselves quarantined in their home after a horrifying virus spreads quickly through the community. What the parents and their two children don’t realize right away is that this virus is turning people in to flesh-eating monsters.   I know, it sounds like so many other films, and in all honesty, it’s not very original. With its’ brisk 81-minute run-time, some fine performances and direction, “What We Become” manages to make you forget that you have seen this same story so many times before and lets you enjoy it anyways.  This is definitely worth checking out for zombie fans.
