Wolfcop: Blu-Ray Review

wolfcop

Arriving this week on Blu-ray and DVD is the horror-comedy “Wolfcop”, directed by Lowell Dean (“13 Eerie”). This piece of cinematic Canadian gold has been buzzed about for awhile and last month I was fortunate to host an East Coast premiere of it at a local convention. The title alone should tell you if this is something that you want to see. Those who don’t get the humor in watching a werewolf cop with a drinking problem fight crime will most likely want to stay clear, but those who do get it should thoroughly enjoy the insane romp.

Officer Lou Garou (Leo Fafard) may be a cop, but he is definitely not one of Woodhaven’s finest. He drinks from morning through night and is always sloshed while on the job. While investigating a disturbance in the woods, Lou is ambushed by hooded figures in which they perform a ritual on him.

It doesn’t take long for Lou to transform into a werewolf and for the first time we get to see the transformation begin in a way we have never seen before. This then leads to a massacre within a bar bathroom. With the help of Woodhaven local Willie Higgins (Jonathan Cherry), Lou decides to fight crime as Wolfcop and at the same time figure out what has happened to him and what is going on with the town.

“Wolfcop” is stupid of course, but it’s the best kind of stupid. It never takes itself too seriously and it actually delivers the laughs. It is unfortunate that this never got any kind of theatrical release within the United States because it really does need to be seen with an audience. My advice is to grab the blu-ray/DVD and invite some friends over and watch it as a group with a serving of liquor and donuts.
