Zombie High: Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on blu-ray this week is 1987’s “Zombie High”, courtesy of Scream Factory. The film stars Virginia Madsen (Candyman) and Paul Feig (the actor-turned-director who is currently helming the 2016 remake of “Ghostbusters”). I had never seen “Zombie High” before but the story reminded me quite a bit of 1998’s “Disturbing Behavior”, although the tone is quite different.
“Zombie High” is the only film directed by the late Ron Link. Set at a former all-male boarding school, Andrea (Madison) attends on a scholarship, along with a handful of others. Ignoring the warnings from her boyfriend that something weird is going on at the school, Andrea decides to make the most of her education. She also happens to catch the eye of Professor Philo (Richard Cox). Andrea does begin to notice that the students are acting more like drones. Personalities are changing overnight and she soon discovers that the student’s minds are being altered by the Dean and professors who have a secret agenda of their own.
“Zombie High” is mildly entertaining but not very memorable. Paul Feig is definitely the stand out here. He beings some much needed life to his scenes. I just wish he had more of them. If you are a fan of “Zombie High” and don’t already own it, the HD transfer looks very good and might be worth picking up.
