Backcountry: Blu-Ray Review

backcountry

Arriving this week on Blu-ray is the survival-thriller “Backcountry”, written and directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Adam MacDonald. I had heard nothing but good things over the past year in regards to “Backcountry”, so I was eager to sit down and check it out for myself. I am pleased to say that this one lives up to the buzz.

Set in the Canadian wilderness, Alex (Jeff Roop) decides to take is girlfriend Jenn (Missy Peregrym) on a camping trip, where he plans to propose to her on top of a cliff that overlooks a lake. Aside from an awkward run-in with a nature guide (Eric Balfour) and Alex hurting his toe when he drops a canoe on it, the camping trip moves along pretty smoothly. All that changes when the couple realize that they are lost in the woods. Alex and Jenn are out of food, water and afraid. Just when they think things can’t get any worse, something even more dangerous comes into play.

“Backcountry” is really good and Peregrym (whom I enjoyed on TV shows like “Heroes” and “Reaper”) is absolutely fantastic here. If you are looking for a good thriller, be sure to check this one out.
