Condemned: Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on VOD, DVD, and Blu-ray this week is Eli Moran Gesner’s “Condemned”, which stars Dylan Penn, Ronen Rubinstein, Lydia Hearst, Johnny Messner, and Jon Abrahams. If there was ever a movie that would sway you away from squatting in a condemned apartment building, this would be the one.
Sick of her parents constant fighting, Maya (Penn) leaves hear beautiful beachside home and into a condemned Lower Eastside Manhattan apartment building with her boyfriend and his friends. They aren’t the only ones residing there illegally. Their neighbors consist of meth heads, transsexual prostitutes and various other colorful characters. What the residents don’t realize is that their combined noxious waste and trash has generated a nasty virus that is turning them into boil-covered, rampaging killers. Soon Maya and her boyfriend must fight for their lives to escape.
“Condemned” is a nasty piece of work. This is one of those gore-over-scares type horror films where the main goal is to try and gross you out and for me it actually succeeds. “Condemned” is pretty terrible, but gore fans will find plenty to enjoy here. It’s hard to believe is was directed by the same guy who helmed the 2009 hip-hop/skateboarding documentary “Concrete Jungle”.
