Crocodile Dundee Trilogy: Blu-Ray Review

The first two Crocodile Dundee films have been available on Blu-ray for quite some time, but this week the third and final film in the franchise, Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles finally makes its’ way onto Blu-ray. Even though most of us wish the third installment was never made to begin with, it is now available as part of a 35th anniversary trilogy collection.

The first film was released in 1986 and was a massive box office smash. Crocodile Dundee was a simple fish-out-of-water comedy, which saw Australian crocodile hunter Mick Dundee (Paul Hogan) charming the hell out of the folks of New York City. It is definitely a comedy classic and a part of 80’s pop culture.

The 1988 sequel, Crocodile Dundee II was not nearly as funny or entertaining. This time Mick gets to take on the bad guys on his turf and it just doesn’t have the same impact. The film isn’t terrible, but it just feels like a retread and Hogan’s charms can’t save it.

As for Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles, this third film in the series which was released 13 years after the previous film sees our favorite crocodile hunter, move to Los Angeles with his wife Sue (Linda Kozlowski) and their son. Again, Mick is a fish-out-of-water, but now in Hollywood. This film is so bad, that I honestly can’t believe it actually, received a theatrical release. Today, this would have easily been a straight-to-streaming title, that probably would have killed on Netflix or Amazon just for nostalgia.

Unless you are a huge fan of the 3 films, I really can’t recommend jumping into this set.  The first two installments are already on Blu-ray for about half the price, but if you need to have the Los Angeles one as well, now you can.
