Fender Bender: Blu-Ray Review

fenderbender

Arriving on Blu-ray this week is “Fender Bender”, the first film to be co-produced by ChillerTV and Shout! Factory.  Written and directed by Mark Pavia (Stephen King’s “The Night Flier”), “Fender Bender” lacks originality, but make up for in sheer old school slasher entertainment.  It may not be memorable but horror fans shouldn’t find themselves bored while watching.

17-year-old Hillary (Makenzie Vega) is having a bad day.  First, she witnesses her boyfriend having an affair and moments later she is involved in a fender-bender.  The driver (Bill Sage), hit Hillary from behind while she was stopped.  The two exchange insurance information, but Hillary does sense there is something off with the guy.  However, her biggest concern is that she was driving her mom’s new car and was worried about how her parents would react.

Needless to say, they weren’t pleased and they decided to leave Hillary home while they went on a weekend trip without her. Although her parents are away for the weekend, Hillary won’t be alone.  The driver who rear-ended her has made the teenager his next victim and will stop at nothing to kill her and the friends who decided to come pay her a visit.

“Fender Bender” doesn’t bring anything new to the table but is successfully navigates the slasher tropes and winds up being an enjoyable throw-back to classic 80’s horror.  Although they were a die-a-dozen three decades ago, decent slasher films are a rare breed today, so when one comes along, I must recommend it for the fans.
