The Mind’s Eye: Blu-ray Review

Arriving on Blu-ray and DVD this week is Joe Begos’ “The Mind’s Eye”, and it is oh so awesome.  I am a huge fan of “Scanners” and although I have seen all the sequels (including “Scanner Cop”), they were all pretty lame follow-ups.  “The Mind’s Eye” is not at all related to the “Scanners” series, but I agree with the quote on the disk cover. It is the best “Scanners” sequel we never got.

Zack Conners (Graham Skipper) and Rachel Meadows (Lauren Ashley Carter) were born with psychokinetic capabilities.  After Zack has a run-in with the law, he is visited by Doctor Michael Slovak (John Speredakos) who tells him that Rachel is at his facility getting treatment. The only way Zack can see her is if he agrees to go to the facility as well. Wanting to reunite with Rachel, Zack agrees to go in for treatment.  What he doesn’t realize is that Slovak is deranged and has a personal agenda for the psychokinetic individuals. Eventually Zack and Rachel do escape but Slovak is on the hunt and he has his own abilities now thanks to the harvesting of their powers.

“The Mind’s Eye” is a great deal of fun and sports a killer soundtrack. There is also plenty of humor.  It’s hard to keep a straight face during the film’s climactic face-off that has to be seen.  Those who grew up on 80’s sci-fi/horror are going to get a real kick out of this film.  I urge you to check out ‘The Mind’s Eye”.
