Firestarter (Collector’s Edition): Blu-Ray Review
Arriving on Collector’s Edition Blu-ray this week is 1984’s “Firestarter”, based on the novel by Stephen King. This film has always stood out among the countless King adaptations during the 80’s thanks in no small part to star Drew Barrymore and George C. Scott. Unlike most horror film villains, Scott’s John Rainbird is different kind of creepy and very effective.
Although “Firestarter” doesn’t quite hold up, it is still fun. I also love the cast which includes David Keith, Martin Sheen, and Art Carney. Thanks to Shout’s Scream Factory we now have a great looking 2K transfer that is so clear you can actually see the wires pulling back the actors during explosions. It is a a fantastic transfer though. There are also some great bonus features. Fans of “Firestarter” will probably want to pick up this release.
