Halo: Nightfall – Blu-Ray Review

Arriving this week on Blu-Ray is Microsoft Studios’ “Halo: Nightfall”, an X-Box Live exclusive series that was produced by Ridley Scott. “Nightfall” consists of several micro-episodes which when put together form a 98 minute movie. I am a fan of 2012’s “Halo 4: Forward unto Dawn” Blu-Ray and have actually been looking forward to “Nightfall”. Not having an X-Box, I had to actually wait for the Blu-Ray release.

After an alien biological attack, Agent Locke and his team of ONI soldiers (Office of Naval Intelligence) team up with Commander Randall Aiken and his soldiers for a very important mission. They must head to a deserted Halo Ring and destroy it in order to save those back home.

With their ship in ruins after a crash and a deadly alien presence that is attracted to their power, the solders must complete their mission without the use of the tech. They only have a matter of hours before the Halo Ring reaches upwards of 800 degrees thanks to sun. To make matters worse, the teams begin to turn on each other, knowing that only a few of them will come out alive at the end.

“Nightfall” moves along pretty quickly, but biggest issue is that the characters are not very interesting. I also expected something a bit more unique. There is a serious lack of originality. I would love to see something in the future akin to the most recent “Battlestar Gallactica” series. Those who are fans of the “Halo” game series will probably want to check out “Nightfall” if they haven’t already but for anyone else, there isn’t much here to recommend.
